I was a surfer who had already been surfing and so would not have been attending the school, but I did watch the teachers teach my fiance as I was teaching my fiance to surf.
And all the teachers appear to be nice and can show a person how to stand on the wave in the first hour of their lesson.
The rent of board is not so high – you can pay 200 pesos/hour, 500 pesos/half day and 800 pesos for all day.
On the other hand, Siargoa charges 200 pesos for an hour and 400 pesos for an entire day. Utter they say 3 stars, but I think the Surf School is actually 5 stars and really all my decision is made by the location. Nevertheless, I am a surfer from California although I have been to many countries to surf, so I will have to rate the place. This part is only about Urbiztondo beach in San Juan and not the surfing school. In addition to exercises, I have surfed many times at the Sargao Island at Cloud 9, which has now become popular over the past 10 years.
Meanwhile, La Union, which was visited for the first time by the surfers in 1981 has not exploded yet but it is the best growing surf location. This place is Manila by the surf with a dense population and buildings built right next to each other.
During the summer you could literally walk across the backs of the beginner surfers as they jockey for position in the beginner area for surfers.
It is more crowded than any beginner surf area I have ever seen and remember I am from California. The first day I was there I counted 300 people in the water including spin who were swimming right among the apprentices. And this was in an area no larger than 100 meters long. I cringed as I watched apprentices running into other surfers and spin alike. There is a large sign on the beach put up by the government warning apprentices not to surf the point.
However, “the point break” is not even a point break.
Rather it is a reef break and for some reason someone decided to call it a point break.
I will admit I came here in May 2017, which is not the surfing season so I can’t really review the quality of the wave during best conditions.
I can however review the quality of the beach.
The beach is placed not too far from a small shipping port, but the density of the population makes it so there is constantly trash floating in with the high tide. Haunts like Heavyweight do their best to clean this trash as it appears, but many other hotels do not do this.
Also, because they have over-developed the place, many of the trees have been cut down creating beaches without adequate shade.
Thank God that is not the case in Siargoa at the present time. Many of the hotels are old and I found myself going to the Heavyweight restaurant just to be able to charge my laptop since their power exits are more modern. I also observed many of the teachers teaching their students to stand up planting their back foot on the board first and then getting up. I have always taught my students how to stand up planting both feet at the same time.
But to each their own. If you are an experienced surfer wanting to surf the Philippines you will be better off going to Siargoa.
But for a local who lives in Manila, I can see how this place would be adequate to get that first surfing experience. And if you feel it that the location has been over-developed, try to see my last photo of what is going to happen to this coast.

The latter part of the rainy season from June to October, could also provide larger projections and for this reason, the location becomes the best for the experience surfer who may be interested. In other parts of the year, the waves are more gracious with the surfers and apprentices of all kinds but practicing long-distance surfers for the rest of the season.

Filipino surfers are extremely warm and thoughtful of visitors and can also provide tourists with cool surfing tips and guidance. Many touristy surf surroundings have surf schools where the firstthusiasm shines, local teachers who will guide beginner surfers and the friendship of the country makes the surfing spots seem full and community-introduced!!

La Union surf is all about San Juan, which is one of the hottest surf spots that serve almost all the Luzon Island.

It is not in vain that this place is regarded as the best learning to surf destination in Asia, the energy is lively! A cool surf camp is right on the spot at Monaliza’s. It is a good location for the more experienced surfers to sleep over due to being the main provider of the quality wave in this part of the town. It’s like a long right point which has a way of inside section of Bells when the big projections from October-January push in (but from which Elyu will get little love by real Bells fans if they hear). Sets will line up and rip right off a shallow reef. This is a fun logger wave for washed-up old-clocks that can have nice rides up to 100m on skinny days. Shorties would be recommended at times and into the bargain, curls go over the head herein.Carille Point is a right turn off the reef shallow that increases from the side of Luzon. Unlike Mona´s, it´s a little bit more challenging and even takes the time to form on a series of underwater rocks at high tide to create a wedgeing wave that breezes up and walls in front of your nose! To make your surfing experience stress-free make sure you still have enough fluid and that there is always a place to be in the pocket on the best days. But those of you with strong legs can also be greatly rewarded with extremely long trips over 400 meters.
We were so proud to have chosen a hotel that had more charm than its intimacy to the breaks. The logic is indeed, if you can afford a car, then you are free enough to switch from one place to another at your convenience. The rolling of the popular waves is irrelevant; the main thing is to be in San Juan, the best place to surf for all of the directions.
