How to Plan a 4-Week Road Trip Across America with an Optimized USA Travel Itinerary
See a show on Broadway in NYC. Pick the show based on his interest or sense of humor, but one cannot go wrong with the bigger or longer-running shows: Wicked, Lion King, Hamilton, and Book of Mormon, among others.
Take a drive through Utah. Some of the most amazing parks like Arches, Zion, and Bryce Canyon are located in Utah, they are easy to drive through or can be viewed from great vantage points of the spectacular views they offer. I have traveled to many of the 50 states and would say Utah is my favorite for its breathtaking scenery.
Notwithstanding, all the parks are so different from each other. I would say, rather than see you Yosemite, it would be the Pacific Coast Highway which is the most beautiful way if you are driving from CA with destinations of SF and LA. Note that it is not on the way to Yosemite. It could be one or the other.
Reserve one or two good restaurants in advance. If you are able to obtain a reservation, some of the best restaurants in the world are in the US. Also, do not forget to taste the special cuisines of each area like Mexican in SoCal, various BBQ types in the south, etc., which they are really good at.
Food can be a very powerful way to experience a city/country.
Do not be a glutton at fast-food restaurants or chain restaurants the whole time. The Pacific Coast Highway is a beautiful way to do it.
Highly controversial, but CA1 (PCH is only a small portion of SoCal) is almost the same as the Great Ocean Road in Australia.
There’s nothing like Yosemite in Australia though. See some national parks, not just cities.
You would indeed have a different take on the US if you visited Yosemite rather than San Francisco.
If you want to do National Parks, Southern Utah is the one to go.
Arches, Bryce Canyon, and my favorite, Zion.
Again, not very far from the Grand Canyon either.
Boston – New York – Philadelphia – Washington DC should be done by Amtrak inter-city trains and public transport within the cities – no need and don’t drive your car. Most of the rest.S. You will need a car. Because it is June and July, I would do national parks in the Northwest where the summer weather will be milder – Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Glacier, North Cascades, Olympic and then end up in the city of Seattle. Seattle is just as beautiful in July!! How about a trip to the Pacific Northwest from San Francisco?? Take the easy ferry rides in Seattle to islands like Bainbridge or the San Juans.
You may also want to try out the city’s cuisines—choose a steakhouse and Italian on the East Coast and some fish and Asian cuisine options on the West Coast. I strongly recommend that you do not rent a car in New York City. Besides, rideshare, taxis, and public transportation are the most convenient ways for urban residents to travel in the city, which is probably true in the other East Coast cities you have mentioned.
Parking in NYC is frustrating inconvenient and expensive.
Travel by train between the East Coast cities you wish to visit and then explore the local transportation options specific to each city.
